Don Jacobs supports ACS Winners for Life Charity Classic To Raise Scholarship Money for Kentucky Students

May 2009 — Local students will benefit from the second annual ACS Winners for Life Charity Golf Classic, which will fund scholarships at the Bluegrass Community & Technical College (BCTC).

The event - designed to assist local students who have demonstrated academic motivation but lack the financial resources to attend college - will be held on Monday, June 1 at The Bull at Boone's Trace.

"ACS has long been part of the Lexington community and this is just one more way for us to give back and contribute to those who need our help," said Tom Blodgett, executive vice president and group president for ACS. "Despite these difficult financial times, we are receiving tremendous support from the community. Our sponsors, donors and golfers realize there is a bigger need than ever for scholarships for deserving students."

The inaugural event in 2008 raised $30,000 and funded six scholarships for BCTC students. Celebrities scheduled to participate in this year's event include:

• Former Green Bay Packer and Super Bowl I & II Champion Donny Anderson
• University of Kentucky and Pittsburgh Steelers great Dermontti Dawson
• Former U.K. and New York Giants quarterback Jared Lorenzen and other Kentucky Horsemen players
• Former U.K. basketball great Derrick Hord

"My will and my determination have gotten me this far," said scholarship recipient Daniela Hodges. "With ACS' support, nothing will stop me now."

Golfers will tee off at noon with an awards presentation and dinner to follow. Additional scholarship proceeds will be generated thanks to generous sponsors and donors Bowne, Verint, Aptara, Don Jacobs BMW, Belterra Golf Resort, Republic Bank, DELL, and others.

"The Winners for Life Foundation is delighted to once again help students in the Lexington area reach their dreams of a college education," said Anderson. "The second annual golf tournament is a great example of the Lexington community reaching out to support deserving students who may not otherwise have the chance to attend college."

The Winners for Life Foundation was founded by Anderson in 2001 and is designed to inspire, encourage, and guide at-risk teenagers. The foundation began awarding scholarships in 2005 to those in financial need and demonstrating a motivation to succeed. Since the program began, more than 150 students have received over $300,000 in scholarship money.
